The Old Stone House, Battle of Brooklyn/Long Island
On this location, the Battle of Long Island, also known as the Battle of Brooklyn, was fought. About 400 Maryland soldiers attacked the British soldiers who were strategically located in and around the Old Stone House. Many Maryland soldiers perished in this battle, but it gave Washington's troops more time to retreat to safety.
